Kia EV6 Review

The Kia EV6 has finally launched in the electric vehicle (EV) market. This car gives an impressive range, technology features and comfort. Even if you wonder why this electric vehicle is much more convenient in the Kia’s Generation? Well, today, we’ll talk about the Kia EV6 long range, pricing and performance. Let’s start with the details.

Kia EV6: Pricing & Range

Kia EV6 Review

So, let’s start with the pricing and range. The Kia EV6 starts at $73,000 after rebates. For that price, you get a remarkable claimed range of 528 kilometers per charge. However, winter conditions can play a significant role in actual performance. Considering the chilly temperatures and inclement weather, I estimate a real-world range of approximately 448 kilometers. This adjustment accounts for the typical 15% decrease in range that electric vehicles experience in colder climates.

Kia EV6: Model Differences

The Kia EV6 lineup is available in four different models. The entry-level Kia EV6 standard range features a 58 kWh battery and a range of 394 kilometers. The model we’re reviewing today, the EV6 Air Long Range offers a larger 77 kWh battery, which boosts the range to 528 kilometers and enhances performance with a 168 kW motor. Here are the Kia EV6 four models:

  • EV6 Air Standard Range: 58 kWh battery, 394 km, 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds.
  • EV6 Air Long Range: 77 kWh battery, 528 km, 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.
  • EV6 Earth: 77 kWh battery, all-wheel drive, 506 km, 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds.
  • EV6 GT-Line: Similar to Earth but with enhanced features and larger wheels.

Interior Design and Comfort

Now, let’s talk about the Kia EV6’s interior design. It’s quite good, with a striking look that some love and others may not. One unique feature is its cam tail design, which can enhance aerodynamics and result in a notable drag coefficient of 0.28. This design choice contributes to the vehicle’s efficiency, crucial on the longer trips.

By the end of the trip, I had traveled 573 kilometers in just over eight hours. My average energy consumption was 18.1 kWh per 100 kilometers, which is impressive given the winter conditions. This means that in colder months, you can expect around 425 kilometers of range before needing to recharge.

Efficiency and Charging

Charging the EV6 is easy, especially with access to hyper-rapid chargers. During my stop in Rotorua, I utilized a charger capable of delivering 300 kW. Just a quick swipe of my ChargeNet key fob and I was plugged in. At peak charging speeds, the EV6 can gain over 1,000 kilometers of range per hour, making it incredibly efficient for long distance travel.

After a 23 minute charge in Rotorua, I added 300 kilometers of range for about $39. If I had charged at home using Ecotricity Eco Saver plan, it would have only cost around 13 – $14 for a full charge. This highlights the convenience of charging at home versus public stations.

Concerns and Complaints

However, no car is without its drawbacks. One of my main concerns is the size of the Kia EV6, which can make parking a challenge in urban areas. Additionally, it lacks a heat pump, which would help with efficiency in cold weather. While the displays are informative, the one behind the steering wheel can be obscured if the wheel is positioned low.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a spacious, comfortable and efficient electric vehicle that can handle long distance travel very easily. The Kia EV6 could be the perfect fit for you. Let’s rate the car across all the categories:
